Sahajanand Swami was born in Chhapaiya, Uttar Pradesh (Northern India). He was situated in the west Indian state of the Gujarat, where he was decide to until his death in 1830.
His name was Ghanshyam Pande which was given by his parent, Hariprasad Pande (father also called as Dharmadev and mother as Bhaktimata. He has two brothers, Rampratapji Pande, and his older brother, and was Icharamji Pande, his younger brother. In the liturgy of the sect, the story of the announcement of the coming birth of krishna in the Bhagavata Purana which is repeated in the story of the birth of swaminarayan. He was born on the occassion of Ram Navami, hence Chaitra Sud Nom of the Vikram Samvat calendar which is celebrated as both Rama Navami as well as Swaminarayan Jayanti.
